About
This is a collection of mountain bike rides, mostly on the south downs around Brighton, although a few other places will sneak in as I visit them. I generally ride with the Brighton Explorers Club
Mountain Bikers, so rides tend to be circular and about two hours in length depending on your cycling speed, which works out at about 10 miles for Thursday (moderate) rides, 15 miles for Tuesday (harder) rides and sometimes longer for Sunday and non club rides which tend to be moderately paced rides. If you are riding on your own or in a small group expect your times to be faster.
As these are mostly club rides, there are a number of starting places that get used all the time, usually because they are next to a nice pub we can relax in after the ride and there is parking for those who don’t want to ride to the start point. Clicking the Categories on the left of the screen will list all rides that start at a particular place or are of a certain length.
Each post contains a single ride with length in miles, how much uphill, flat and downhill there is, a picture showing the overview of the route and the elevations involved. I don’t record the conditions or difficulty of the ride, however if something really stands out I’ll make a note of it.
Clicking on the route picture will open a new window showing the ride plotted onto Google Maps so that you can zoom in and look at the route in detail. The GPS data used is fairly accurate and I’ve edited any big errors out, but sometimes the line may be slightly off the actual path, so use your common sense when using these to plan a ride.
If you want to load the routes into your own software then the GPS data can be downloaded by right clicking on the link to either the GPX or KML files and choosing “Save Link As…”.
For the more geeky of you I use a Garmin Edge 305 cycle computer with wireless heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor to record the routes and use SportTracks software to view the data.
